Great write-up Jeremy! If it helps I had to turn off the sound as well as I grew tired of hearing the Boston 'homer' announcers.

I agree Ned was fantastic tonight and appears to be a great pick up by the captain. Zadina's goal was very nice indeed. Seems like Seider was a little more physical tonight too which is also nice to see as his game matures.

You got that right. Boston has the worst homer announcers in the league followed by the Avs. Great win for the Wings.

Unbelievable how little the Wings gave up for Ned, for how well he's played so far. It was definitely a stolen win, Bruins outplayed and outshot the Wings, after the 1st period and the shots so lopsided, it felt like an inevitable L.

Maybe Zadina will start stringing a few goals together too.

Nice game! I'm going to get way ahead of myself here:

Vrana should be back at the end of February which is 30 more games. Would leave us with 9 games before the trade deadline and 29 games left in the season.

If the Wings keep it up, I wonder what type of moves they will actually make. Going into the season Greiss, Leddy, Fabbri, DD and Namestikov were all deadline trade chips (some useless *DD*).

What does Stevie Y do if they keep this up? Still not a contender. Currently sitting in the second WC spot but have also played the most games. As a fan it would be a gut punch if he sent everyone out and they missed the playoffs, but would also help the rebuild continue.

On the Jack Hughs contract:
Jack Hughes has never scored more than 31pts in a season(in 56 games, on pace for 45pts in an 82 game season) so 8mil a year is a ton for that production.
On the other hand his Corsi was a massive 61% and his Corsi Relative to the team was an astronomical 16points higher than his teammates. Which I don't ever remember seeing a corsi relative number that high for any player relative to their teammates.
I think its probably an overpay for the first two years when NJD suck anyway, but will be a bargain for the final 6 years.

Yeah, there were good reasons to pay him that much, but it will take a while to see the results.

If they continue to suck and he continues to be injury prone that contract will suck no matter what. I am always one to argue, you don't pay vets for what they have done but what you think they will do. But that is for the third contract when it will end in the mid 30s, not when the player is 21. This deal stinks of Clayton Keller.

Yeah, it seems these players will be offered up before the TDL. However, Fabbri and Names may be re-signed, 2yrs for Names and 4yrs for Fabs (Fabs may wish for a trade and a 7-8 yr deal tho), Greiss may even be re-signed, but only 1 yr deal here and not til the summer when Stevie will see who is available first. I don't see ledy getting the Wings over a 3rd because his defense and his first pass outta the zone has fallen off, but he would be a good guy on the 3rd pair and the 2nd PP on a contender. An offensive D depth piece.
Never the less, Stevie has made this team better this year, and a couple of successful drafts and a few trades from being a contender! Optimism is surely going up for this team!

Agree on Leddy, but he is also something this team doesn't have an in house replacement for this year. I'm starting to think Fabs and Names will be resigned unless there is a bigger deal to be made.

I'm going to hold you to that, H2! I actually think you may be on to something; making smaller changes as the team improves, but weeding out the dead-weight (e.g., DKs burdensome and non-productive, bloated, wasted, POC contract....). I think, if we fall apart in the 2d half of the season, Fabbs MAY be gone, but he's a good player and really kinda fits the stereo-type of the current Wings player. Namestnikov is finding his stride and may be the veteran presence down the road. Greiss is another 1-yr deal while Cossa germinates in the bus leagues, he should be in GR next year based on his numbers now. Vrana coming back means someone has to go, though. Not sure who it'll be....

Stats don't lie; Detroit stunk the place up last night...except for Ned. Stall cost us a 5-on-3 because he's slow. Zadina had a laser-guided bomb shot for his goal. I REALLY hope he starts getting into his groove, his contract may be on the line....Staal got the GWG because he was so pissed off that he put us in the hurt-locker. I'm hoping this is his last year.

Say what you want, Ned's progressing VERY well and seems a sure-fire 1G, until Cossa comes in and shows he can take the 1B. Imagine THAT G tandem!!!!

When Vrana returns, this team may be a spoiler or a WC contender. Either way, I said this before the season and stick by it; Woe be the team that underestimates the Wings this season. I think, once Vrana gets back, he'll need a conditioning stint in GR (2-3 games), then hit his NHL stride (5 games or so) and should have around 22 games to go lights-out, or at least contribute some uncertainty to the Wing's opponents. This could very well be a Decision-Point season; make big moves to push for the SCPO, or another year to let the team germinate and grow. Will be interesting to see what happens....

JEREMY: We back your decision 100%. You've been such an amazing trooper through this. But you know what your limits are. When you hit them, you'll know....and know what to do. Until then, we've got your back and can help you carry the blog for a while; you've taught us very well how to look critically, be respectful of each other, and add humor. We can at least TRY to be like you...

Any interest from the Wings in DeBrusk? What would you trade for him, if you were the GM? I think he'd be worth the risk, but for nothing more than a 2nd rounder. That might be pushing it too.

Believe he's going into RFA with a $4m tender..... Not sure I'd jump on that grenade unless we already had a deal worked out for a few more years. Now, for what I would consider in trade...that's a good one. I'd say a 2d and a 3d at best. IF we signed him to 3+yrs, throw in a decent AHLer. Again, at BEST.

But that does pique the interest.....

What a smart excellent well coached game this was.
They played to "not lose"....and did it perfectly. Capitalized on the couple good chances they got.

So good to see a coaching and management staff that has everyone pulling the rope in the same direction.

Erne for Debrusk straight up. No picks. Don’t care if it’s a bad deal for Boston.
